Are you looking for a cure for bad breath? Well, in order to find a cure for the odor, you need to educate yourself and learn about the causes of this disgusting condition, such as oral bacteria. Bad breath is not incurable. It can be stopped if you are willing to make the effort to cure it. Once you find the causes and learn how to treat and prevent them, you have found a cure for bad breath.

A large number of people suffered from bad breath and they are not realizing it themselves until someone pointed it up to them. It is an embarrassing problem to suffer from bad breath or halitosis. Not only will it lowers your confidence, it will also make those around you cautious to get too close. Halitosis can cause tremendous social embarrassment for you. It is certainly a handicap in many social situations. If you have stinky breath, people will never remember you by what you say, only by the bad smell that comes from your mouth.

Below are 10 Great Tips to Bad Breath Cure:

1. Brush Your Teeth Regularly

The best way to help your breath is to get rid of the bacteria on your gum lines, on your teeth and your tongue by regular brushing of your teeth daily. The minimum standard is to brush at least two or three times everyday and you must brush or scrape your tongue as well. Your tongue, especially the back of your tongue contains more bacteria that you can think of!

Use a good tongue scraper to get rid of those disgusting bacteria on your tongue. Your tongue is the place where the bad odor originates because of the bacteria that live in the texture of your tongue. You need to make sure that your tongue is free of such bacteria which causes halitosis. Unless you dislodge the bacteria, any mouthwash or gum you chew will only mask the breath caused by bacteria.

2. Rinse Your Teeth After Eating

After you eat, make sure to rinse out left over food particles in your mouth. Not only does rinsing your mouth helps to clear your mouth of any food particles that are stuck in your teeth, you can also rinse away the odor of the food that you've just eaten.

If you can, do invest in a good rinse product to help you fight bad breath. Rinsing is a very important part of combating bad breath. I recommend TheraBreath Oral Rinse to help you achieve a fresher and cleaner breath. Use this refreshing Oral Rinse after brushing with TheraBreath Toothpaste. The rinse uses the odor-obliterating power of OXYD-8 to fight halitosis and sour/bitter/metallic tastes.

Bad breath can be caused by many things. Bacteria in the mouth causes most of it, but being sick can also cause bad breath. A lack of saliva can have the same effect. Any toothpaste helps to quell bad breath, but toothpaste and brushing cannot get rid of the bacteria between your teeth or underneath your gums. This is why you should floss. Flossing gets that bacteria out, tightens your gums, and provides fresher breath.

i brush my teeth 2 times a day with colgate toothpaste and use listerine mouthwash but my breath still smells bad i dont want to go back to school with bad breath because a few people have even made remarks about it and i cant brush my teeth in the middle of the day so i tryed mints between every class but they dont work how can i stop my breath from smelling bad??? i'm not even losing teeth anymore

    • ANSWER:
The major cause of bad breath is the top of the tongue where bacteria produce those bad smells. Mints, gum, mouthwash and even toothpaste will cover up bad breath for a short time, however, these products do not cure bad breath because they do not get rid of the bacteria that cause it. To get rid of bad breath you must clean the top of the tongue. I learned about OraBrush 6 months ago and have been cleaning my tongue every time I brush my teeth since then. I have fresh breath. Works for me.

  15. QUESTION:
What are some ways of getting rid of bad breath?
My toothpaste and mouthwash work but
only for a limited time and sometimes I don't have gum so
I tried to avoid getting really close to peoples face because I know
I have bad breath, so is there any simple at home treatment or anything I can do to reduce it or get rid of it?

    • ANSWER:
You need to start by getting a professional cleaning. Having gingivitis or periodontitis can cause bad breath. Next, you need to floss everyday. Your toothbrush does a good job on the areas you can see, but only floss can get to the bacteria between your teeth. Bacteria is what's causing the smell. Brush at least twice a day, the most important time being before bed.

  16. QUESTION:
How to get rid of really bad breath?
For the past couple months i've noticed my breath has been really bad, much worse than usual. I brush my teeth, and use mouth wash twice a day. I don't know what to do brushing my teeth and mouthwash doesn't seem to work. My breath is so bad and it's embarrassing constantly getting complaints about it. Especially in the morning, it's terrible. Does anybody know of any special product type of mouthwash or toothpaste or any other thing i can do to get rid of my bad breath

  17. QUESTION:
Does anyone know what to do about bad breath?
I feel like I have bad breath. My husband says that I'm imagining it, but I notice that about an hour after brushing my teeth I feel like I have bad breath and my mouth tastes bad. I've had my dental check up and have no cavities, and I've tried every kind of toothpaste and mouthwash that I can think of. I'm starting to be really selfconcious about it!

    • ANSWER:
Perhaps brush your teeth more often will keep a minty scent there for longer.
Also chewies like Extra Peppermint can keep a nice smell =)

  18. QUESTION:
What's the best kind of toothpaste and mouthwash?
1.My 11 year old kid has cavities and yellow teeth.
    2.He also has bad breath.
3.He can handle the burn of alcohol.
What's the best kind for him?No blue colored kid's toothpaste or mouthwash.

    • ANSWER:
Your question is based on the fact that you believe your kid's bad breath is due to his teeth. Not so. The primary cause of bad breath in humans is the top of the tongue where bacteria produce those bad smells. Yes, brush and floss the teeth but then also clean the tongue. Remember, a toothbrush is designed to clean teeth, not the tongue. I use OraBrush tongue cleaner because it is designed to clean the back of the tongue where most of the bacteria are.
Use the best toothpaste that will clean the teeth and then use a mouthwash or water to clean the tongue when you clean it with OraBrush. I have used OraBrush for 6 months and now have up to 12 hours of fresh breath after each cleaning.

  19. QUESTION:
What's the best thing to prevent bad breath?
i mean like the whole deal:
best toothpaste, mouthwash, what not to eat etc.
thaaaank you from the bottom of my mouth

    • ANSWER:
The best way to remove the smell and prevent it is not just to brush but to floss and brush your tongue. Type of toothpaste doesn't matter, but I recommend one with fluoride. Listerine mouthwash kills bacteria so it helps a little. But it all comes back to flossing.
The bad smell comes from plaque which is living and dead bacteria and their by-products and the damage they do to your tissues. Removing them with brushing and flossing removes the smell. It sounds really gross, but if you want to convince yourself to floss everyday - tonight floss first and take a wiff of that little white gob of stuff you get out from between your back teeth. Its uber-nasty and that's where the smell is coming from.
Also, go in for a cleaning and check up and you dentist and/or hygienist can check for periodontal disease and see if you need a "deep cleaning." If that's the case you'll need that and a lot of hard work to fight that halitosis. Good luck!

  20. QUESTION:
What will permanently get rid of bad breath? How long will it take?
I'm scared I have bad breath. Peoples reactions when I talk sometimes hint it. What can I do? Obviously brushing my teeth. How many times a day? Should I use mouthwash throughout the day? How long will it take to see results? Help please. Gimem toothbrushes to buy, mouthwashes, toothpastes. Any help plz.

    • ANSWER:
You should be brushing after every meal, roughly three times per day for at least two minutes at a time. You should be using floss after every meal, and use mouthwash and a tongue scraper at least twice each day. Pay attention to what kinds of foods that you are eating. Also, do you have problems with dry mouth? Dry mouth and post nasal drip can cause bad breath, so keep hydrated. Have regular dental checkups (roughly once every six months) to ensure that you do not have cavities or gum disease. Also, you should go to the doctor if it is a concern for you, since underlying health conditions like diabetes can cause bad breath.

You might want to avoid gum and mints that contain sugar because sugar actually FEEDS the bad breath-causing bacteria!

You can also try natural cures such as baking soda, green cardamom, parsley/mint garnishes, brussel sprouts, and green tea. These help deodorize the halitosis.

  21. QUESTION:
    chronic bad breath???
whether intensive masturbating leads to dry mouth or bad breath

Try putting about 15 hard candy mints in your mouth while you do it. Not only will your breath be crisp and cool but you will also have a nice treat when you finish and have something to bite down on when you clench at the point of orgasm. The crunch sound will surely confuse any listeners who may be at your door or who have their ear to the wall in the next room.

  23. QUESTION:
    Bad breath................?
I've tried everything - mints, mouthwashes, toothpaste etc.
I think I need to brush my tongue as well. I brush as much as I can but I can still see where it needs to be brushed, but I can't reach that far back without gagging.
I've got no idea what to do, it really embarrasses me. D:
Also, I've been to the dentist about it & they just said I need to brush more, otherwise I could get gum disease etc. But I already brush twice a day for two minutes like a normal person! I use an electric toothbrush if that helps btw.

    • ANSWER:
Flossing also helps to quell that bad breath. A lot of bacteria gets in the pockets of your gums and causes this. To properly floss, you need about 12-18 inches of floss. You then want to wrap it around your middle finger on both hands and unravel to the other hand as needed. You want to push the floss up into your gums until you feel resistance. You then want to scrape downwards against your tooth to remove this bacteria. Make a tight C-shape around your tooth to clean it very well.

To whiten your teeth you use a teeth whitener. To get rid of bad breath is another matter. White teeth does not mean fresh breath, because bad breath is caused by bacteria on the top of the tongue that produce those bad smells. Mints, gum, mouthwash, and even toothpaste will cover up bad breath for a short time, however, these PRODUCTS do not get rid of bad breath because they do not get rid of the bacteria. I learned about OraBrush tongue cleaner 6 months ago and now clean my tongue every time I brush my teeth. I now have fresh breath.

I've tried everything, I've changed my toothbrush, my toothpaste, I use mouthwash quite regularly and sometimes I also flosh. I don't eat garlic or anything, I normally eat ham sandwiches for lunch and shizz xD
I really can't think what else it could be, but its really bad.
Any ideas on how to cure it?

    Thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
First of all, you need to brush often and brush your gum tissue whenever you brush your teeth. Secondly, you need to use dental floss every single day. Thirdly, the tongue is a huge collector of bacteria and food debris and should be scraped with a tongue scraper every time you brush. You can also brush the inside of your cheeks and the roof of your mouth. Lastly, rinse twice a day with Listerene. Use it full strength and rinse for at least one minute. Before you spit it out, tip your head back and gargle for 20-30 seconds.

Another cause of bad breath is sinus drainage. If drainage is the case, see your M.D.

In that case, I'd suggest that you keep doing what you're doing, but in addition to that start taking care of things other than oral hygiene. What do you eat? If you are prone to bad breath, then I suggest avoiding onions, garlic, leek, dairy products, meat, shrimp and fish. Eat cucumber, mint leaves, Thai basil, and parsley on a daily basis, perhaps make it into a salad, or just eat it like that. If you can bear the taste, eat a wedge of lemon or chew on a bruised stalk of lemongrass after meals.

Then I guess the rest should be about touching up on your breath every half hour or so. Always have a bottle of water with you and sip every other minute. Drink green tea without sugar. Chew strong xylitol mint gum for quick breath relieve, it helps produces saliva which self cleans the mouth. Brush and floss after every single meal and snack, leave no morsel for odor-producing bacteria to breed on. I'd play down on the mouthwash though... dentists have told me that using mouthwash too often will backfire. Especially that listerine brand has a high alcohol content which tends to dry out the mouth. Use an alcohol free mouthwash and keep it down to once or twice a day.

If you smoke then quit, because the stench comes from your lungs and no amount of oral hygiene will be able to make the bad breath go away.

Definately use a tongue cleaner! Most of the bacteria in your mouth is on your tongue! Also, a good mouthwash to try is Crest prohealth. It is alcohol free and you can use it as often as you like. You could have other things going on in your mouth causing bad breath (decay, periodontal disease). Don't be embarrassed to ask your dentist about your bad breath!! They answer questions like this every day!! No matter how awful you think your oral health is.....trust me....your dentist has seen it all. Your mouth will not shock your dentist! • ANSWER:
You didn't list if you flossed or not, if you don't...You should start. Or would suggest a waterpik, those things work great, there is an attachment to the waterpik that scrubs the tongue and gets any and all gunk off. Lastly, this has been an old tradition to chew on cilantro, if you don't like cilantro, try the things listed above and see how it works out, or you can visit your dentists and ask them if they can prescribe something for you. Good Luck!

  42. QUESTION:
Persistant bad breath that is ruining my life!?
I've been dealing with this problem since I was 10 years old. My friends came up to me and told me that I had bad breath when I was in the 5th grade. In high school, I was known as the girl with bad breath. Do you know how difficult it was for me, during high school. For people to know you have bad breath, and tease you for it. I am 19 years old now and I still do not know what is wrong. I know my siblings and parents smell my breath because sometimes they cover their noses in a sneaky way. I brush my teeth twice a day. Floss daily. Scrape my tongue with a tongue scraper, then I go back over it with my toothbrush and toothpaste. I heard that gargling with mouthwash can cause bad breath so I gargle with diluted hydrogen peroxide. I chew gum but my breath still smells bad. I do not smoke or drink. I do not have gingivitis. If I did my dentist would have said so. I have better oral hygiene than my younger brother and he doesn't have bad breath. My younger brother doesn't even floss his teeth, yet he has fresh breath. When I was 16 I had the courage to tell my dentist about this, but she said that I had breat oral hygiene, and she had no clue where it could be coming from. Since then, I have just said forget it. My dentist probably doesn't even know I have bad breath, because I never talk. She's always saying.."you are so quiet." I have no social life at all, no friends or anything. I go out of my way to keep from being in contact with other people and that's tough because I am in college. I cover my mouth when I talk, so that people won't smell my breath. I've even had suicidal thoughts. People think..oh it's not that bad. But imagine having bad breath 24/7 and everytime you talk people cover their noses or make rude comments and think that you don't brush your teeth. Just because I have bad breath doesn't mean I don't brush my teeth. Think about how you can't talk to someone face to face or have relationship with someone without them holding their breath or pulling their top lip to their nostrils. All I want is someone to help me. I don't want to give up. I know I can get rid of this. Can anyone tell me what may be wrong? I would be thankful for any bit of advice.

    • ANSWER:
      You might have tonsil stones.
It's where carbohydrates get caught up somewhere in your mouth (but not teeth) and then acidic food dissolves most of it away leaving behind a small hard cream/white stone thing that decays giving you bad breath. You can get them from eating fast food chips followed by an acidic drink like coke.

They usually happen either in the tonsils, in your sinuses, or in an access point in your mouth (like down behind your back teeth if you have non-erupted wisdom teeth).

Tonsils: Your tonsils are like a sponge and these stones can get inside them. You can look by gently squeezing your tonsils between your tongue and the roof of your mouth, then look for any little white rocks.

Access point: Get a tissue and scrape it behind your back teeth to see if that's the source of the smell. The dentist wont always see these because they can be hidden.

Sinuses: Behind a flap of skin on both sides at the back of your mouth, it's not pleasant messing with them. If you look in the mirror with your mouth open and gag, you will be able to see behind the flap of skin without touching them. Look for white dots at the back of your mouth on either side (roof of your mouth but back near the tonsils)

If you find any cream dots (about the size of a sesame seed) then that is the problem. Once you know what it is you can google or talk to a doc about ways to reduce them. Tonsil stones are solid and occur in places where they won't wash away, so they will survive constant flossing and mouthwash.

  43. QUESTION:
How do I reverse tooth decay and bad breath? serious answers only?
My teeth have decayed some and my teeth have turned yellow. My diet and lack of oral hygeine has contributed to my bad teeth and breath but i find that no matter how much i brush the bad breath doesn't go away, the toothpaste and mouthwash simply mask the smell. I've also had teeth removed. I had one tooth removed in 2003 and another removed in 2009. The tooth decay only happened recently. Please tell me what I can do.
i've been prescribed concentrated flouride toothpaste. I'm also using arm & hammer toothpaste with peroxide and baking soda.

    • ANSWER:
The only thing to do about the decay is get the needed dental work. You can't make a cavity go away without having it fixed. You can smell tooth decay, so your breath won't get better either until you get your teeth fixed.

Curious how the decay happened recently, since it is normally a very slow process. Lord knows I understand.. I've had almost all of my back teeth capped. A dentist may be able to help you find out why you are having so many dental problems. They can also give prescription flouride treatment to slow the decay and help prevent additional cavities.

If money is an issue, talk to your dentist about a plan and get things done as you can afford.

Juan I do not eat red meats at all. I only eat chicken and turkey.
No my dentist didn't say that I didn't have bad breath she just said that I have great oral hygiene. I never said she didn't say that I didn't have bad breath.

I have bad breath. Peopl at college has told me.
Gracinda also in high school I was known as the girl with the bad breath. How dare you tell me this is in my head. You don't know what I have been through. You don't know how depressed I get. How much I sit here and cry.

    • ANSWER:
My friend has the same thing, but I believe that she eats a lot of foods with garlic or onions. The smell comes out of her pores too, and no matter how much she brushes her teeth; the smell is still there. Some bodies do not process garlic like others. It sounds like you have a healthy diet, but you may have to stick with very bland food (no garlic or other similar spices ever). I don't know how to tell her (my friend), because she is very confident and I don't believe she knows how bad it really is, but people have commented to me about her breath for 20 years. You should be PROUD of yourself that you have decided to work on your problem at a young age, instead of waiting. Also, If you eat any of the popular healthy frozen food entries too, every one of them has garlic powder. (Just a thought, because some college students do eat on the run.) Of course, do not starve yourself ever, but try eating yogurt with granola with an apple for a day up to 4 serving of this for a couple of days, and ask your mom (or someone that loves your unconditionally) if they notice a difference in your breath. You do not have to say that you are limiting your spices or garlic, some people get offended by this (why, I don't know). Good luck, you have so much life to live!

    • ANSWER:
Your diet could be causing bad breath. Low carb diets are notorious for causing bad breath and it is critical to eat a balanced diet to stop bad breath. Yogurt with active cultures, fiber-rich foods, high vit C foods like berries and citrus, and certain spices like spearmint, rosemary, tarragon, eucalyptus, coriander and cardamom are all your friends. These foods help create an intestinal tract that is inhospitable to the bacteria which cause bad breath. Intermittent odor coming from the intestinal tract may explain why your dentist did not detect any odor in your mouth, and from your description of your hygiene routine you probably do have excellent oral health. You could always get a second opinion however and try another dentist for your next check up. I hope this helps!

How do you tell your boyfriend he has bad breath?
He brushes his teeth regularly. I don't know if it's the toothpaste he uses or if he needs to start using mouthwash. I haven't thought of a nice way of explaining why I back away when he tries to kiss me.
    Ideas anyone?

    • ANSWER:
It is probable that your boyfriend has a case of Halitosis. Sit down with him and, in a kind and loving way, tell him he has bad breath. Suggest some mouthwash or over-the-counter products for Halitosis. If the problem is still there after a couple of weeks, I would suggest a visit to the doctor. The sooner you tell him the better it is for you. I hope his symptoms get better and for the time being, I would suggest going and buying a nose plug. P.S. ALL guys are oblivious to even the simplest hints. That is why you do not hint around about anything. He will not understand and it will only cause further problems in the relationship!!!

  48. QUESTION:
Is it bad to use whitening toothpaste and Listering mouthwash together?
For about the last year (probably a little less) I've had the same brushing routine: A whitening prewash rinse, brushing my teeth with Colgate Advanced Whitening toothpaste, floss, and regular Listerine moutwash. I've done this every day but I'm starting to wonder if it's bad for me? I started doing this because my teeth used to be REALLY yellowy (I know teeth aren't supposed to be super super white and a bit yellow but mine were pretty yellow) and my mom kept telling me my breath smelled funny. But now I'm not so sure if I should keep doing this. My dental office gives me Colgate toothpaste each time I visit and it used to be the advanced whitening one but last week they gave me Enamel Strengthening ones. So do you think I should stop using all these whitening products and tone it down a bit?

Oh and one more thing: I brush my teeth at least three times a day, that should make up for all the whitening products right?

    • ANSWER:
Im a compulsive whitener myself... i used to gel it for ten minutes twice a day brush with whitening toothpaste and then rinse with a whitener. Its NEVER healthy to whiten as much as we are doing lol. It wears away the enamal on our teeth and we need that. So I stopped and believe it or not my teeth are still freakishly white after stopping for a year. You can stop but still be cautious. Like i only drink from straws so no carbonated beverages or coffee/tea touch my teeth, etc. Be creative but take it from me, cut down, you'll be happier later on that you did.
      Good Luck!

    • ANSWER:
Bad breath is caused by bacterial overgrowth on the tongue surface. I'm not sure what has caused this to happen in your case, but you may want to try this home remedy:

"Gargle with honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water so that breath stays fresh throughout the day"
